Happy Thursday everyone~!
I am currently reading The Reading Group by Elizabeth Noble and am enjoying the book for the most part as I’ve always loved books about books and also stories that involves book clubs. In this particular novel, there are five characters that made up the reading group (or book club), which is Susan, Polly, Harriet, Nicole and Clare. Each of these women has their own issues, such as unable to conceive, adultery, love-less marriage, among others.
Anyway, one of the women, Harriet was stuck in a love-less marriage and felt like there’s more to life than being stuck in a marriage to her husband, whom she cannot stand, so she decided to play with fire and get involved with a friend she knew from back in her university days, Nick. One thing that Nick said while they were talking really hit a note with me.
You women are all the same. You worry about the wrinkles and the half stone and your boobs dropping, but you don’t worry about the sparkle, and that’s the best bit. You shouldn’t let that go.
He had a point there. And I think the way he said it (or rather, the way the author wrote it), was that he was not deliberately putting down women for placing importance on our appearances, it’s just that there are more important things in life, like the sparkles. I love that 🙂
What do you think? 🙂
